3.20.100 - Riding on sidewalk.

No person shall ride or operate a bicycle on any sidewalk in the City, except that juveniles under the age of eight (8) years, exercising due care and giving the pedestrian the right-of-way, may ride and operate their bicycles upon the sidewalk, except such sidewalks as are in front of schools, stores, or buildings used for business purposes. Persons riding bicycles on the sidewalk shall do so in single file.

3.20.110 - Keeping to right of roadway.

Person riding or operating bicycles on streets or highways shall keep such bicycles as close to the right of the roadway as possible, except when preparing to make a left-hand turn.

3.20.120 - Riding in a group.

Persons riding or operating bicycles on streets or highways shall not ride more than two (2) abreast, except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles.

3.20.130 - Passengers.

A person operating a bicycle shall not ride other than upon the permanent and regular seat attached thereto, nor carry any other person upon such bicycle other than upon a firmly attached seat to the rear of the operator.

3.20.140 - Clinging to moving vehicles.

No person riding or operating a bicycle shall cling or attach himself or his bicycle to any other moving vehicle or person in any other vehicle.

3.20.150 - Traffic signals.

A person operating a bicycle shall stop for all arterial highways and traffic signals and shall obey all posted traffic signs.

3.20.160 - Crossing at crosswalks.

Every person operating a bicycle shall dismount and push his bicycle across the street at crosswalks where Junior Traffic Offices are on duty and at all marked and unmarked crosswalks on Eleventh Street and Central Avenue.

3.20.170 - Trick riding.

No person riding or operating a bicycle shall perform or attempt to perform any acrobatic, fancy, or stunt riding upon any public highway or street in the City.

3.20.180 - Hand signals.

No person shall turn a bicycle or stop a bicycle which he is riding or operating unless such movement can be made with safety, and then only after giving an appropriate signal during the last fifty (50') feet traveled by the bicycle before turning or stopping.

3.20.190 - Requirements for operators of bicycles involved in accidents.

The operator of any bicycle involved in an accident shall take reasonable steps to ascertain whether or not anyone was injured, and he shall give his name, address, and the license number of his bicycle to the person with whom he was in collision, and he shall obtain the same information from the other person.

It shall be the duty of the bicycle operator to make a written report of any accident resulting in death or injury to the Police Department within twenty-four (24) hours after such accident.

3.20.200 - Violations by juveniles— Punishment.

Where the provisions of this article have been violated by juveniles under the age of eighteen (18) years, in lieu of such fine and imprisonment as provided in Section 1.04.010 of Chapter 1.04 of Title 1 of this Code, and in lieu of filing charges in the Juvenile Court, the Chief of Police may prohibit the operation of a bicycle used in such a violation upon the streets, alleys, and public places in the City for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days. Such bicycle shall be impounded by the Chief of Police and retained by him during the period of time for which the operation is prohibited, and the owner's registration card shall be held for a like period.
