Sec. 1-8.201. Council salaries.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 36516 of the Government Code, each member of the Council shall receive a prescribed salary, the amount of which is based upon the population of the City as determined by estimates made by the State Department of Finance.

Sec. 1-8.203. Council compensation.

Except as their salary may be increased by this section, each member of the City Council shall receive a salary of One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty and no/100ths ($1,750.00) Dollars per month, which shall be payable at the same time and in the same manner as salaries are paid to the other officers and employees of the City, effective December 2008, upon the seating of newly elected Council following the November 2008 election. In addition to said salary, the City shall contribute to the Public Employees Retirement System and provide such other miscellaneous benefits for that Councilmember as set forth in a Council resolution, provided any benefits are available to the general City employees.

Sec. 1-8.204. Increases.

Following any new or later population estimate by the Finance Department placing the City in a different population group under Government Code Section 36516, the salary of each Councilmember may be increased to that sum prescribed for said population group. If no new population group is obtained, the salary may be increased by the annual five (5%) percent limit set forth in Section 36516 of said code.

Sec. 1-8.205. Deemed separate from reimbursement for expenses.

The salaries prescribed herein are and shall be exclusive of any amounts payable to each member of the Council as reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses incurred by him or her in the performance of official duties for the City.
