Sec. 2-7.01. - Office of Public Defender established.¶
The office of Public Defender for the County is hereby established in accordance with the provisions of Sections 27700 through 27711 of the Government Code of the State.

Sec. 2-7.02. - Appointment.¶
The Public Defender shall be appointed by the Board and shall serve at the will of the Board.

Sec. 2-7.03. - Duties.¶
The duties of the Public Defender shall be those as defined in Section 27706 of the Government Code of the State as now in effect or as may hereafter be amended.

Sec. 2-7.04. - Salary and expenses.¶
The Public Defender shall be paid a salary in accordance with the schedule now established by the Board and as may hereafter be modified. The Public Defender shall be allowed actual and necessary expenses as other County employees.

Sec. 2-7.05. - Conflict counsel for indigent persons.¶
In the event that an attorney at law is appointed by a court as conflict counsel for one or more indigent persons charged with a crime, he shall be entitled to receive compensation for services so rendered and expenses so incurred, payable out of the General Fund of the County upon the order of the court or Judge thereof, as follows:
(a) Pursuant to an agreement or contract authorized by the Board of Supervisors for the provision of indigent and/or conflict counsel services;
(b) A fee of Seventy-five and no/100ths ($75.00) Dollars for each preliminary hearing;
(c) A fee of One Hundred and no/100ths ($100.00) Dollars for the first day of trial in the Superior Court and a fee of up to Forty-five and no/100ths ($45.00) Dollars per hour for services thereafter as approved by the County.
(d) Reimbursement for actual expenses in each case as shown by itemized sworn claims supported by vouchers for each and every item of actual expense upon order of the Superior Court.
