2.56.010 - Fire chief.¶
The office of the chief of the fire department is created. All appointments to such office shall be made by the city manager. In making such appointment, the administrator shall give due consideration to the recommendations, if any, of the volunteer fire department.

2.56.020 - Fire chief—Duties.¶
It shall be duty of such chief of the fire department to organize a volunteer fire department in the city; and such fire department may establish and adopt bylaws and regulations for its government not inconsistent with rules and regulations as may be adopted by the city council or the provisions of the city council of the city.

2.56.030 - Responsibility at fire.¶
The fire chief and his/her authorized representatives, as may be in charge at the scene of a fire or other emergency involving the protection of life and/or property or any part thereof, shall have the power and authority to direct such operation as may be necessary to extinguish or control any fire, perform any rescue operation, investigate the existence of suspected or reported fires, gas leaks or other hazardous conditions or situations, or of taking any other action necessary in the reasonable performance of their duty. In the exercise of such power, the fire chief may prohibit any person, vehicle or thing from approaching the scene and may remove or cause to be removed or kept away from the scene any person, vehicle or thing which may impede or interfere with the operations of the fire department.

2.56.040 - Damage liability.¶
This chapter shall not be construed to hold the public entity or any officer or employee responsible for any damage to persons or property by reason of the inspection or reinspection or failure to inspect or reinspect authorized in this chapter provided or by reason of the approval or disapproval of any equipment or process authorized in this chapter, or for any action in connection with the control or extinguishment of any fire or in with any other official duties; such matters being controlled by state law and court decision.
