Sebastopol Municipal Code Ch. 15.54 Uniform System of Numbering Houses and Buildings

There is hereby established a uniform system of numbering houses and buildings fronting on all streets, avenues, and public ways in the City of Sebastopol.

Sebastopol Avenue and Bodega Avenue shall constitute the baseline for numbering all streets running north and south, and the centerline of the Laguna de Santa Rosa lying east of the City limits of the City of Sebastopol shall constitute the baseline for all streets running east and west.

All buildings and lots on diagonal streets shall be numbered the same as north and south streets if the diagonal runs more from the north to the south and the same on east and west streets if the diagonal runs more from the east to the west.

The numbers for each street shall begin at the baseline. The numbers on north-south streets shall commence with zero. The numbers on east-west streets shall begin with 6600, and increasing westward in such a manner as to be 7000 at all intersections with Main Street.

All properties on the south and east side of all streets shall be numbered with odd numbers. All properties on the north and west side of the streets shall be numbered with even numbers. Where a new building has more than one door serving several separate occupants, a separate number shall be assigned to each door. Fractional numbers are not to be used. Buildings fronting on two or more streets shall have a number assigned only to the main entrance unless other entrances serve different occupants.

For the purpose of facilitating correct numbering, a plat book of all streets, avenues, and public highways within the City showing the proper numbers shall be kept on file in the office of the City Engineer.

It shall be the duty of the Fire Chief to administer this chapter and issue property numbers. In case of doubt as to the proper number to be assigned, the Fire Chief shall determine the number of such lot or building.
