18.40 — ENFORCEMENT

§ 18.40.010. Airport Police Under the Supervision of the Chief of Police.¶
Notwithstanding Section 2.12.030 of this Code, the Santa Barbara Chief of Police shall be responsible for all employment matters of the Santa Barbara Airport Police Department and shall have the authority to act to safeguard the public on all Airport property. § 18.40.015. Airport Police Designation.¶
The Santa Barbara Airport Police are peace officers as provided for under Section 830.33(d) of the California Penal Code and shall have the authority to perform the duties authorized under that code section.

§ 18.40.016. Airport Police Department: Commission on Peace Officer Standards and…¶
The Santa Barbara Airport Police Department is a member agency of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) and adheres to the standards for recruitment, training, and qualifications established by the Commission. (Ord. 6165, 11/19/2024)
§ 18.40.020. Issuance of Citations.¶
The Airport Director shall designate in writing the classification or job title of airport employees designated to exercise citation authority pursuant to Section 836.5 of the California Penal Code. (Ord. 3480 §2, 1971; Ord. 5203, 2001; Ord. 5557, 2011; Ord. 6165, 11/19/2024)
§ 18.40.030. Carrying Firearms.¶
The Airport Police, as a condition of their employment, are authorized to carry firearms. The training, use, and handling of firearms shall comply with all departmental policies, rules, and regulations.

§ 18.40.040. Penalty.¶
The violation of any provision of this title is a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed the sum of $1,000, or by imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
