Sec. 74-271. - Definitions.

The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Block means that portion of any street between the cross streets or between a cross street and an abutting street or between two abutting streets. For abutting streets the prolonged further line of the abutting street shall be the dividing line of the blocks. All blocks exceeding 600 feet in length shall be considered as two blocks.

Sec. 74-272. - System.

The following shall be the system of numbering all buildings and premises in the city fronting on streets laid out or to be laid out or extended:

(1) From north to south the dividing line shall be the centerline of the right-of-way of the Southern Pacific Railway as it is more particularly described in county book 57, page 282, of deeds.

a. Running northerly from such centerline and also to the prolongation of the southerly line of First Street east and west to the east and west boundaries of the city, the numbers shall increase from 1 to 99, both inclusive.

b. Running northerly from First Street, the numbers shall increase from 100 according to the number of blocks to be numbered.

c. Running southerly from such centerline to the northerly line of Porter Avenue, the numbers shall increase from 200 according to the blocks to be numbered.

(2) From east to west the numbers from Maclay Avenue shall be allotted and used as follows:

a. From the easterly line of Maclay Avenue the numbers shall decrease from 1099 to 1, according to the number of blocks to be numbered.

b. Running westerly from Maclay Avenue the numbers shall increase from 1100 according to the number of blocks to be numbered.

Sec. 74-273. - Numbering of entrances to buildings from public streets generally.

(a) All entrances from the public streets of the city to buildings or premises shall be numbered as provided in this article.

(b) The number of each front entrance shall be placed upon or immediately above the door or gate closing such entrance.

(c) Each figure of such number shall be at least three inches in height in residential zones and at least four inches in height in commercial and manufacturing zones and shall be of corresponding widths.

Sec. 74-274. - Duty to number buildings and remove improper numbers on notice.

The appropriate number of any entrance to any building or premises shall be placed thereon within five days after the receipt by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant or subtenant of such building of a notice from the city engineer of the number designated for such building or premises. All numbers, other than the numbers provided for in this article for the respective entrances, shall be removed from every building or premises by the owner, occupant, lessee, tenant or subtenant thereof within five days from the service of notice designating the appropriate numbers to be placed thereon.

Sec. 74-275. - Designation of numbers and numbering system map.

It shall be the duty of the city engineer to designate the respective numbers for buildings or premises fronting on streets laid out or to be laid out or extended, and he shall provide and have on file in his office for the use of the general public a map or plan showing the numbering system of the city in accordance with the terms of this article.

Sec. 74-276. - Odd and even numbers.

The building numbers on the northerly and westerly sides of streets shall be odd numbers, and the numbers on the southerly and easterly sides shall be even numbers.

Sec. 74-277. - Allotment of numbers to block; feet to be allowed for each number.

One hundred numbers, or as many thereof as shall be necessary, shall be allowed to each block, and 20 feet of frontage shall be allowed for each number.
