§ 2.19.010. Abolition of Department of Social Services.

The Sacramento County Department of Social Services is hereby abolished.

§ 2.19.020. Creation of the Department of Human Assistance.

There is hereby created the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance.

§ 2.19.030. Department Responsibilities.

The Department of Human Assistance shall be vested with such powers, functions, duties and responsibilities with respect to the provision of public assistance, employment services, veterans services, homeless programs, child development centers and other brief services and programs, as authorized by County Charter, ordinance or other law.

§ 2.19.040. Position of Director Created.

The position of Director of the Department of Human Assistance is hereby created. The Director shall be appointed by the County Executive, subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors, and shall be subject to removal by the County Executive in accordance with the provisions of the County Charter.

§ 2.19.050. Duties of Director.

The Director of the Department of Human Assistance shall have and exercise the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Planning, developing, managing and operating the Department of Human Assistance;

  2. Serving as the appointing authority for all Department personnel, except as provided by Charter, ordinance or other law;

  3. Performing such other duties as are prescribed from time to time by the County Executive and/or the Board of Supervisors.
