2.05.010 - Filling of vacancy.¶
As authorized by California Government Code Section 36512, within sixty days from the commencement of the vacancy, the council shall either fill the vacancy by appointment or call a special election to fill the vacancy. If a special election is called, it shall be held on the next regularly established election date not less than one hundred fourteen days from the call of the special election. If the council appoints a person to fill the vacancy until the special election, that person holds office only until the date of the special election. Nothing herein shall require the council to fill a vacancy by appointment until the special election.

2.05.020 - Appointment process.¶
If the council desires to appoint a qualified individual to fill a vacancy, the council may determine, in its discretion, if and how interviews and selection will be conducted, provided the process complies with all applicable laws and statutes, including the Brown Act, California Government Code Section 54950 et seq.

2.05.030 - Term.¶
A person appointed or elected to fill a vacancy holds office for the unexpired term of the former incumbent.
