Sec. 9.56.010. - Switchblade knives prohibited.

Every person who carries concealed upon his person, and every person who sells, offers for sale, exposes for sale, loans, transfers, or gives to any other person a switchblade knife having a blade two inches or more in length is guilty of a misdemeanor. For the purposes of this section a "switchblade knife" is a knife having the appearance of a pocket knife, the blade or blades of which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle, or other mechanical device, or released by any type of mechanism whatsoever, and includes a springblade knife, snapblade knife, or any other similar type of knife.

Sec. 9.56.020. - Firearm—Defined.

The term "firearm," as used in sections 9.56.030 through 9.56.040, includes the following: Cannon, gun, pistol, revolver, automatic pistol, rifle, shotgun, air gun, pellet gun and any other weapon designed to discharge one or more projectiles propelled by the force of an explosion or other form of combustion.

Sec. 9.56.030. - Same—Discharge prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to shoot or discharge any firearm within the city.

Sec. 9.56.040. - Same—Exceptions.

The provisions of section 9.56.030 shall not apply to:

(1) Any peace officer or member of the armed services while acting in the lawful discharge of his duties;

(2) Any person using a firearm in the lawful defense of himself, another person or property;

(3) Any person discharging a firearm at an established firing or target range which has been approved for such use by the chief of police; provided such use is in accordance with such conditions as the chief of police shall have prescribed upon such use;

(4) Any person discharging a firearm containing only blank cartridges, as a usual and necessary part of a theatrical performance, exhibition or contest.

Sec. 9.56.050. - Violation; penalty.

A violation of sections 9.56.020 through 9.56.040 is a misdemeanor punishable as provided in section 1.16.010.
