Chapter 10.20 — TRUCK ROUTES

A.

It is unlawful for commercial vehicles weighing or carrying a load in excess of twenty-six thousand (26,000) pounds to utilize city streets in commercial and residential zones, except as follows.

For purposes of delivery and pickup in the normal operation of a commercial business;

Upon designated truck routes within the city limits. For the purpose of this chapter truck routes are as follows:

a.

State Route 32 as existing within the city limits,

b.

County Road 99 (Sixth Street),

c.

County Road 16 (South Street) between Interstate 5 and the eastern boundary of Railroad Avenue,

d.

Railroad Avenue from South Street to County Road 18,

e.

County Road 200 from Papst Avenue to County Road N,

f.

Commerce Lane,

g.

Ide Street,

h.

Hoff Way.

Any deviation from established truck routes shall only be for necessary traversing of streets for purposes of repair, fueling, travel to and return from established or permitted truck yards. For the purpose of this chapter an established or permitted truck yard is one which is legally in operation under city code or possesses a current, valid use permit;

As hereinafter exempted; needing State Department of Transportation approval, or as permitted by the city council.

B.

When such limits that are established herein are designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding the maximum gross weight shall drive only upon those routes permitted and no others, provided however, that nothing shall prohibit the operator of any such vehicle exceeding the maximum gross weight utilizing restricted streets when necessary for the purpose of making pickups and deliveries of goods, wares and/or merchandise from or to any building or structure located on such restricted streets or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon such streets which are restricted for which a building permit has been previously obtained.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to those vehicles specifically exempted by action of the California Public Utilities Commission or any owned by public utilities while necessarily in the use of installation or construction or repair of any public utility or appurtenance thereto.

State Highway 32 shall not be affected until this ordinance has been approved by the State Department of Transportation in writing as provided for in the California Vehicle Code Section 35702.
