Sec. 5-10.01. Discharging firearms: Permits required.

It shall be unlawful to fire or discharge, or cause to be fired or discharged, within the City any firearm, rifle, pistol, shotgun, cannon, air rifle, air gun, BB gun, pellet gun, gas-operated gun, spring gun, or any weapon designed to discharge any dangerous missile without first obtaining a permit to do so from the Police Chief; provided, however, the provisions of this section shall not apply to peace officers when acting in the line of duty, nor shall this section apply to any person discharging a firearm in lawful self- defense. Sec. 5-10.02. Discharging arrows.

It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge, release, or shoot any arrow or shaft from any bow, crossbow, or similar device within the City except upon a range or area designed for such activity. (§ 2, Ord. 1667, eff. November 2, 1967)

Sec. 5-10.03. Possession of firearms by minors.

(a) Rifles and shotguns. It shall be unlawful and a misdemeanor for any person under the age of eighteen (18) years to have in his possession, custody, or control any rifle or shotgun within the City unless he has the written permission of his parent or guardian to have such firearm or is accompanied by his parent or guardian while he has such firearm in his possession, custody, or control. (b) Other weapons. It shall be unlawful and a misdemeanor for any person under the age of eighteen (18) years to have in his possession, custody, or control within the City any cannon, air rifle, air gun, BB gun, pellet gun, gas- operated gun, spring gun, or any weapon or device designed to discharge any dangerous missile except as provided in subsection (a) of this section.
