SEC. 20.1. - Private patrol operator defined.¶
A private patrol operator, or operator of a private patrol service, is a person who, for any consideration whatsoever:
Agrees to furnish, or furnishes a watchman, guard, patrolman, or other person to protect persons or property or to prevent the theft, unlawful taking, loss, embezzlement, misappropriation, or concealment of any goods, wares, merchandise, money, bonds, stocks, notes, documents, papers or property of any kind, or performs the service of such watchman, guard, patrolman, or other person for any of said purposes as defined in subsection (b) of Section 7521 of the California Business and Professions Code.

SEC. 20.2. - Possession of current registration.¶
It shall be unlawful for an employee of a private patrol operator to engage in private patrol activities in the city without having in his possession evidence of current registration with the State of California pursuant to subdivision (f) of Section 7514 of the California Business and Professions Code.

SEC. 20.3. - Presentation of registration upon demand.¶
An employee of a private patrol operator in private patrol activities in the city, shall present evidence of current registration with the State of California pursuant to Section 7514 (f) of the California Business and Professions Code upon demand of any member of the police department or fire department of the city.

SEC. 20.4. - Restrictions on uniforms and vehicles.¶
a. No uniform or insignia shall be used in connection with a private patrol service unless and until the uniform and insignia shall have received the written approval of the chief of police that is clearly distinguishable from the uniform and insignia used by law enforcement officers in the local area.
b. No vehicle bearing any special markings, color or insignia shall be used in connection with any private patrol service unless and until it shall have received the written approval of the chief of police that it is clearly distinguishable from the vehicles used by law enforcement officers in the local area.
