4.10.010 - Declaration of intent to establish County museum.

The Board of Supervisors of the County of Monterey declare its intention to establish and maintain a museum and to encourage the establishment, operation and maintenance of other museums of history, science, art, and for similar objectives in and for the County.

4.10.020 - Purpose.

The objects and purposes of said museum shall be to acquire, exhibit, and utilize objects having scientific, artistic, historical and similar values.

4.10.030 - Management and administration of museum.

The day to day management, administration, care, custody, control and supervision of said museum, including each of its branches and all property thereof, is hereby delegated to and shall be the responsibility of the Monterey County Department of Parks and of the Director of that department.

4.10.040 - Components of museum.

The Monterey County Museum, shall include: the recreated farmstead including various barns and buildings and historical equipment and farm antiques at the San Lorenzo County Park; the historical archives and records in the custody of the Department of Parks located at the County Courthouse; and the Nature Center located at Toro Regional Park. It is intended that when and if the Tidball Store and/or Dutton Hotel are restored, that upon certification of the Director of the Monterey County Department of Parks that said store and/or hotel have been restored, the same shall automatically become components of the museum.

4.10.050 - Declaration of intent to cooperate with other agencies.

The Board of Supervisors of the County of Monterey does further declare its intention to cooperate with other agencies, both public and private, including particularly history and historical and arts associations and societies in the establishment, operation and/or maintenance of the aforesaid museum as well as other museums located within the geographic boundaries of the County of Monterey.

4.10.060 - Public use—Hours of operation.

The museum of the County of Monterey shall be maintained open to use by the public during such times as the Board of Supervisors of said County provides appropriations to operate said museum including each of its branches; provided however that any or all of the branches of said museum may be closed to the public by the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation for not to exceed fifteen (15) days, in the absence of further order of the Board of Supervisors of said County permitting a longer closure.
