§ 11.08.010. Purpose.¶
Travel upon the highway and streets designated as boulevards in this chapter is so great that persons driving vehicles entering upon the same from intersecting streets endanger themselves and those upon said boulevards unless before entering such boulevards they bring their vehicles to a stop or slow up as provided in this chapter, and by so doing will promote the public safety.

§ 11.08.020. Designated—By name.¶
The following highways and streets and parts of highways and streets of and in the County are boulevards for the purpose of this chapter.
A. Those certain highways included in the California State Highway System running through the County of Merced and more particularly described as follows:
The Golden State Highway running through the County parallel to the Southern-Pacific Railroad Company's main line;
The Yosemite Highway extending from the easterly City limits of the City of Merced, easterly and northeasterly to the County line between Merced and Mariposa Counties;
The Pacheco Pass Lateral extending from its point of entrance into Merced County at the Madera and Merced County line in a general westerly direction through said County to the Merced and Santa Clara County line.
B. All of those certain County roads, or parts of County roads described as follows:
All of the Cox Ferry Road and such changes as have been made therein, and the Cox Ferry and County Line Road, extending from where the Cox Ferry Road intersects the California State Highway northerly to the intersection of the Cox Ferry and County Line Road with the Snelling and Hopeton Road; thence all of the Snelling and Hopeton Road extending easterly from the above point of intersection to the town of Snelling; thence through the town of Snelling along Lewis Street and Third Street to Emma Street; from thence all of Emma Street and the Snelling and Merced Falls' Road (formerly known as the Hills Ferry and Murray Bridge Road) through the town of Merced Falls to the Bridge across the Merced River;
All of that part of the Atwater and Jones Road extending from the City of Atwater to the town of Winton, now known as Winton Way, and Winton Way extending north from the north City limits of the City of Atwater through the town of Winton to Palm Avenue at the northwesterly corner of Section 13, T. 6 S. R. 12 E., M.D.B.&M.;
All of the Livingston and Hills Ferry Road extending from the west City limits of the City of Livingston westerly to the west line of Section 27, T 6 S.R. 11 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the Finster Road beginning at its intersection with the California State Highway on the easterly line of Sections 25 and 26, T. 6 S.R. 11 E. to the quarter corner on east line of said Section 36;
All of that certain Avenue extending from the town of Arena southerly through the center of Section 32, T.6 S.R. 12 E. and Sections 5 and 8, T. 7 S.R. 12 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the County road known as the JordanAtwater Road, extending from the quarter corner between Sections 8 and 17, T. 7 S.R. 12 E. westerly to the northwest corner of Sec. 13, T.7 S.R. 11 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the County road extending from the quarter corner between Sections 5 and 8, T. 7 SR 12 E. M.D.B.& M., easterly between Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5, and Sections 8, 9, 10 and 11, T. 7 S.R. 12 E. M.DB.& M., to the westerly City limits of the City of Atwater;
All of the Atwater and Stickney Road, extending from the south City limits of the City of Atwater to the southwest corner of Section 24, T. 7 S.R 12 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of that certain avenue lying between Sections 11 and 14, S.R. 12 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of that certain road known as the British Colony Road extending westerly from the west City limits of the City of Merced to the northwest corner of Section 26, T.7 S.R 12 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of that certain road known as the Buhach Road extending northerly from the southeast corner of Section 19, T. 7 S.R. 13 E. M.D.B.& M. to its intersection with the California State Highway between Sections 7 and 8, T. 7 S.R. 13 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of that certain road known as the Livingston and Central Camp Road, extending from the south City limits of the City of Livingston, southerly to the southeast corner of Sec. 14,T. 7 S.R 11 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the Evans-Sweet Road extending from the quarter corner between Sections 11 and 12, T. 7 S.R 11 E. westerly to the quarter corner between Sections 9 and 10, T.7 S.R. 11 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the Blewett Road and Blewett Extension Road, extending from the southeast corner of Section 35, T. 6 S.R. 11 E. west to the Center Road near the northwest corner of Section 2, T. 7 S.R. 10 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the Center Road extending from the Milliken Bridge south to the town of Stevinson;
All of the Stevinson and Merced River Road extending from the town of Stevinson west to the one-half Section line north and south through Section 16, T. 7 S.R 10 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the Perkins Road (also known as Lander Avenue) extending from the County line between Merced and Stanislaus Counties, south to the Milliken Bridge;
All of Millard and Hultberg, and Delhi Roads, extending from the northwest corner of Sec. 14, T. 6 S.R 10 E. M.D.B.& M., east to the northeast corner of Sec. 13, same Twp. and Range;
All of Mitchell Avenue, in Hilmar Colony, extending from the quarter corner between Sections 14 and 15, west to the quarter corner between Sections 17 and 18;
All of Willums Avenue in Hilmar Colony extending from the southeast corner of Section 22, west to the southwest corner of Sec. 19;
All of the Stevinson and Merced River Road, and the Hills Ferry and Murray Bridge Road, extending from the southeast corner of Section 2, T. 7 S.R. 9 E. M.D.B.& M. westerly to the Hills Ferry Bridge;
All of the Kahl Road, Plainsburg and Buchanan Hollow Road, and Simonson Road, extending from the California State Highway east to Jefferson Street in the town of Le Grand, also Jefferson Street in the town of Le Grand;
All of the Merced and Chowchilla Road, extending from the south City limits of the City of Merced, south to its intersection with the Pacheco Pass Lateral of the California State Highway;
All of the Gustine and County Line Road, extending from the north City limits of the City of Gustine northerly along the Southern Pacific Railroad to the County line between Merced and Stanislaus Counties;
All of that certain road known as the Middle Road, extending from the quarter corner between Sections 7 and 8, T. 8 S.R 9 E. M.D.B.& M.; south to the Pacheco Pass Lateral of the California State Highway, at the southwest corner of Section 17, T. 10 S.R. 9 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of that certain Avenue in Miller and Lux's Subdivision of Sec. 8 T. 8 S.R. 9 E. M.D.B.& M., ex-tending from the quarter corner between Sections. 7 and 8, T. 8 S.R. 9E. easterly to the west City limits of the City of Gustine;
All of the Los Banos and Volta Road extending from the west City limits of the City of Los Banos, northwesterly along the Southern Pacific Railroad, through the town of Volta to the Centinella and Badger Flat Road;
All of the Centinella and Badger Flat Road extending from the Middle Road at the southwest corner of Section 32, T. 9 S.R. 9 E. M.D.B.& M. east to the Los Banos and Volta Road;
All of that certain road known as Elgin Avenue, extending from the quarter corner between Sections 22 and 23, T. 10 S.R. 12 E. M.D.B.& M. south to Blossom Street Extension Road;
All of Blossom Street Extension Road extending from Center Street in the town of Dos Palos, west to the Section line between Sections 9 and 10, T. 11 S.R. 12 E. M.D.B.& M.;
All of the avenue between Sections 9 & 10, 15 & 16, T. 11 S.R. 12 E. M.D.B.& M., extending south from Blossom Avenue Extension to 5th Street in the town of South Dos Palos; 5th Street from the above point of intersection southerly to "M" Street in the town of South Dos Palos, between 5th and 6th Streets, and 6th Street southerly to the right-of-way of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the town of South Dos Palos;
Center Street in the town of Dos Palos extending south from the main canal to Valeria Avenue;
Valeria Avenue in the town of Dos Palos, extending east from Center Street to the County line between Merced and Fresno Counties;
C. Exceptions from these designations are such streets or highways as pass through and lie within the corporate limits of the City of Merced, City of Atwater, City of Livingston, City of Los Banos and City of Gustine in the County of Merced.

§ 11.08.030. Stops at intersections required.¶
Every operator of a vehicle traversing any highway or street intersecting any of said highways and streets designated in § 11.08.020 as boulevards shall stop such vehicles at the place where such highway or street meets the nearest property line of any of said boulevards before entering such boulevard or any of them; provided the property line is clearly marked or signposted.

§ 11.08.040. Sign erection.¶
The Sheriff of the County is "the authorized and required to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained where each of the highways, roads and streets designated in this section intersects said Golden State Highway designated as a boulevard, and at or near the property line of said boulevard an appropriate stop sign conforming to uniform standards and specifications promulgated by the California State Department of Transportation along the highway, roads and streets intersecting said boulevard; and also, when directed by said Board of Supervisors of the County to place similar signs upon other streets and highways intersecting with said boulevard or boulevards:
A. The Franklin School House Road, lying to the north of the Golden State Highway (said road being the westerly line of Section 15, Township 7 South, Range 13 East, M.D.B. & M.);
B. The Amsterdam and Shaffer Road, lying to the north of the Golden State Highway (said road lying on the west line of Section 7, Township 7 South, Range 13 East, M.D.B. & M.);
C. The Center Way Road, lying to the north of the Golden State Highway (said road being on the west line of Section 34, Township 6 South, Range 12 East, M.D.B. & M.);
D. The Cressey Way Road, lying to the north of the Golden State Highway (said road being on the west line of Section 33, Township 6 South, Range 12 East, M.D.B. & M.); and
E. The Arena Way Road, lying on the north of the Golden State Highway (said road being on the one-half Section line running north and south through the center of Section 32, Township 6 South, Range 12 East, M.D.B. & M.).

§ 11.08.050. Violation—Penalty—§§ 11.08.010 to 11.08.040.¶
Any person violating any of the provisions of §§ 11.08.010 through 11.08.040, or any rule or regulation made by the Sheriff of the County is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished for the first offense by a fine not exceeding Fifty dollars or by imprisonment in the County Jail for not more than ten days. For a second, or each additional violation within a period of one year, by a fine not to exceed One hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the County Jail for not more than twenty days.
