1.24.010 - General purpose.

The purpose of this chapter is to change the date for general municipal elections pursuant to the authority of California Elections Code Section 1301(b).

1.24.020 - Election date.

The general municipal elections for the city of McFarland shall be held on the same day as the statewide general election in November of each even numbered year. The first general municipal election pursuant to the foregoing shall be the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 2008. The first election shall be for those councilman positions currently expiring and subject to election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of March, 2009. Subsequent elections for such positions shall be held every four years after the November, 2008 election. The election for the remaining councilman positions and mayoral position shall be held in November, 2010 and every four years thereafter. The reduction in terms is in compliance with the state requirement that no such position be lengthened or shortened by more than twelve months as a result of the change in the election date.
