8.04.010 Purpose¶
The provisions of this chapter are to designate into this Code the levels of fire hazard consistent with State Law pursuant to Government Code Sec. 51178 in the State Responsibility Area applicable to Mariposa County, that being moderate, high, and very high Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZs) as recommended by the State Fire Marshall pursuant to Government Code Sec. 51178.

The following definitions are adopted for the purposes of this chapter:
"Mariposa County Fire Hazard Severity Zones” means the State Responsibility Areas Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ), as recommended by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection pursuant to Government Code Section 51178, as amended from time to time, and as designated and adopted by the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors.
"State Responsibility Area” means Public Resources Code - PRC § 4102 definition of areas applicable to Mariposa County, being an area of the state, in which the financial responsibility of preventing and suppressing fires has been determined by the Board of Forestry pursuant to Section 4125 to be
primarily the responsibility of the state.

8.04.030 Mariposa County Fire Hazard Severity Zone Map¶
The attached official hazard map is herewith incorporated by reference and entitled “Mariposa County Fire Hazard Severity Zones” which are the State Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zones as defined by the State Fire Marshal (dated June 15, 2023), as may be amended from time to time, and shall be for the purpose of evaluating local wildfire hazard planning decisions and not insurance wildfire risk underwriting decisions. The official hazard map is also located electronically on the following County website:
