Chapter 15.36 — BUILDING NUMBERING

§ 15.36.010. Required.¶
All erections or other property abutting on any street or avenue shall be numbered. (Prior code § 17-9)
§ 15.36.020. Base lines.¶
Yosemite Avenue shall constitute the base line for all numbering on the streets running north and south, and Main Street shall constitute the base line for all numbering on the streets running east and west.

§ 15.36.030. Numbering system.¶
Erections fronting streets from the east and fronting streets from the south shall bear even numbers in their last figure. Erections fronting streets from the west and from the north shall bear off numbers in their last figure. Erections fronting streets running north and south shall be numbered from the base line, such numbers shall be "100" at the base line and not to exceed the number "199" at the end of the first block either north or south of the base line, "200" at the beginning and not to exceed the number "299" at the end of the second block, either north or south of the base line. Such system shall be followed in numbering all of the streets running north and south in the city. Erections fronting streets running east and west shall be numbered from the base line, such numbers shall be "100" at the base line and not to exceed the number "199" at the end of the first block either east or west of the base line, "200" at the beginning and not to exceed the number "299" at the end of the second block, either east or west of the base line. Such system shall be followed in numbering all of the streets running east and west in the city. Where streets intersect but do not cross, the building official shall determine whether or not the numbers shall run in each such case to a street intersecting on both sides of the street being numbered. Any blocks located upon streets which do not intersect the base lines shall bear the hundred number of the corresponding block nearest the same location, which does intersect the base line. In each block each twenty-five feet of frontage shall be deemed the unit for determining the last figure of the number to be used. From the corner of each block nearest its respective base line each twenty-five feet of frontage shall be given a number except where lots vary from twenty-five feet in width, such lots shall be numbered to conform to the size of the lot. Fractions may be used if necessary to designate a building located on a fractional part of a twenty-five foot frontage. (Prior code § 17-11)
§ 15.36.040. Street designation.¶
All lots or parts of lots, houses, buildings and erections located on those portions of any street extending north and south and being north of the Yosemite Avenue base line shall be known and designated as "North" and all south of the Yosemite Avenue base line shall be known and designated as "South," and all located on those portions of any street extending east and west, and being east of the Main Street base line shall be known and designated as "East" and all west of the Main Street base line shall be known and designated as "West." The prefixes shall be placed before the proper name of the street as "West ______ Street," or "North ______ Street." (Prior code § 17-12)
§ 15.36.050. Number determination.¶
In case of doubt or where a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any lot or building, the building official shall decide the question and fix the number of such lot or building. (Prior code § 17-13)
§ 15.36.060. Affixing numbers.¶
On buildings now or hereafter erected and fronting on any street or alley shall be conspicuously placed the number as provided by this chapter. (Prior code § 17-14)
§ 15.36.070. Number style.¶
The number plate, placed upon any building shall be metal or wood, or the number may be painted on the front of the building, door, post, transom, or other place, or the number plate may be an electrically lighted fixture approved by the building official. The numbers shall be at least three inches in height and in such form and style as may be easily seen from the street. (Prior code § 17-15)
§ 15.36.080. Number assignment.¶
In the case of a building or structure, the construction of which is commenced hereafter, the building official at the time he or she issues a building permit therefor shall assign to such building or structure the proper number for the same. (Prior code § 17-16)
§ 15.36.090. Duty to affix number.¶
If the owner or lessee of any building shall fail, refuse or neglect to place the number or replace it when necessary the building official may cause a notice to be personally served on such owner or lessee or mailed by registered mail to his or her last known address, ordering him to place or replace the number. Such owner or lessee shall comply with such notice within ten days from the date of the service.
