Lomita Municipal Code Ch. 10 Vehicle Alarms

Whenever any of the following terms are used in this chapter, each such term shall be deemed and construed to have the meaning ascribed to it as follows:

(a) Vehicle alarm shall mean any machine or device which makes an amplified sound which is installed in a truck, automobile, recreational vehicle, or any other motorized conveyance, with the intention of raising an alarm as a warning device to prevent or discourage theft of that vehicle.

(b) False alarm shall mean any activation of a vehicle alarm, not set off by the commission or attempted commission of an unlawful act which the alarm system is designed to detect, which continues unabated for five (5) minutes or longer or which is one (1) minute or more in duration and repeats at least once during a five-minute period or repeats a constant or intermittent "impulsive sound" as defined in section 4-4.02(e) of this Code.

The sounding of any vehicle alarm false alarm, the sound generated by which is in excess of the noise limits prescribed in section 4-4.04 of this Code, shall be considered a violation of this chapter.

The violation of this chapter shall be an infraction which shall be punishable by:

(a) A fine not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100.00) for a first violation.

(b) A fine not exceeding two hundred dollars ($200.00) for a second violation within a twelve-month period of the first violation.

(c) A fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each additional violation over two (2) violations of the same ordinance within a twelve-month period.
