2.20.010 - Established—Composition.¶
A city police auxiliary is established as a voluntary organization composed of persons appointed by the chief of police. Membership in the police auxiliary shall not exceed the number of regular officers in the police department.

2.20.020 - Chief of police authority.¶
Subject to the provisions of this chapter, the chief of police shall have complete authority and control over the police auxiliary. He may appoint as members thereof any persons whom he deems to be qualified, and he may reject an application for membership. He may provide for the training of candidates for membership, and for the further training of members.

2.20.030 - Qualifications—Swearing.¶
No person shall become a member of the police auxiliary until he has taken the training and is able to meet all other requirements prescribed by the chief of police. When so qualified and selected, he shall then be sworn in by the city clerk as a member of the police auxiliary.

2.20.040 - Expansion or diminishment.¶
Subject to the provisions of Section 2.16.010, the chief of police may, by order, diminish or expand the membership of the police auxiliary as an existing or contemplated condition or emergency may require.

2.20.050 - Termination of membership.¶
The membership of any person in the police auxiliary may be terminated by the chief of police at any time, and such member may resign from the police auxiliary at any time upon notifying the chief of police in writing of his resignation.

2.20.060 - Status as employees.¶
Each member of the police auxiliary while acting under the direction of the chief of police during a regular assigned tour of duty, is an employee of the city and is entitled to receive compensation from the city in accordance with the provisions of Section 3362 of the California Labor Code.

2.20.070 - Duty—Rules—Orders.¶
The duty of the police auxiliary, subject at all times to the direction, supervision and control of the chief of police, is to assist the regular members of the police department in the enforcement of law and the maintenance of peace and order whenever and wherever its services are required. The chief of police may, by order, establish rules and regulations to govern the police auxiliary, including the fixing of specific duties of its members in providing for the maintenance of discipline. He may change such orders from time to time.

2.20.080 - Authority.¶
A member of the police auxiliary, when on duty as assigned by the chief of police shall have the authority given to officers of the police department to direct traffic and shall have the same power of arrest granted a regular member of the police department, subject to any limitations which the chief of police may impose.

2.20.090 - Crowd control duty.¶
The police auxiliary may be assigned to functions at which members of the public may assemble in relatively large numbers where there may be a problem of a breach of the peace and control of the crowd is important in the experience and opinion of the chief of police.

2.20.100 - Uniform—Identification.¶
The uniform for members of the police auxiliary shall be similar to the uniform worn by members of the regular police department, with an identifying insignia to be prescribed by the chief of police. Sidearms shall be carried in the regulation police Sam Brown belt and holster. An identification card, badge and cap piece, and such other insignia or evidence of identification as the chief of police may prescribe, shall be issued to each member who shall carry the card at all times. Each member shall surrender all city property issued to him upon the termination of his membership. The uniform, badge and cap piece may be worn, and the gun and baton carried, only while on duty as assigned by the chief of police.

2.20.110 - Firearm qualification.¶
No member of the police auxiliary shall carry any firearm until he has qualified for it, and received permission from the chief of police.

2.20.120 - Impersonation.¶
It is unlawful for any person to impersonate or falsely represent himself to be a member, or to wear, use or possess a badge, cap or insignia used by the police auxiliary.
