§ 7.40.010. Definitions.

For purposes of this chapter the following definitions apply:

“Alarm system”

means any mechanical or electrical device which is used to signal or give warning of the start of a fire.

“False fire alarm” and “false alarm”

mean any alarm activated for reasons not of an emergency nature or due to the malfunction of any segment or the alarm system, and which results in a response by the King City Fire Department or the King City Police Department, or both where an emergency situation does not exist.

§ 7.40.020. Service charges.

(a) A person shall not knowingly turn in a false alarm. Provided, however, that this section shall not prohibit a test of an alarm system as permitted in advance by the King City Fire Department.

(b) In any twelve month period any residential, commercial or industrial premises which have more than two false alarms in said period shall be subject to payment of administrative fines as follows:

(1) For the third false alarm in a given twelve month period, two hundred dollars;

(2) For the fourth false alarm in a given twelve month period, three hundred dollars;

(3) For the fifth false alarm in a given twelve month period, four hundred dollars;

(4) For each false alarm in excess of five in a given twelve month period, five hundred dollars.

(c) The foregoing charges shall not apply to any premises where one of more of the principal occupants is disabled. All disabled persons are exempt from these administrative fines.
