§ 7.32.010. Declaration of intent.

The purpose and intent of this chapter is to protect K-9 police dogs from being interfered with, or from being harmed, by persons or by animals owned or controlled by such persons, while said K-9 dogs are engaged in the performance of their duties with the police department.

§ 7.32.020. Acts prohibited.

(a) It is unlawful for any person to interfere with, or attempt to interfere with, a K-9 dog, or to tease, torment, strike, kick, shoot at, mutilate, disable or otherwise harm or attempt to harm a K-9 dog while it is engaged in the performance of its duties under the direction and control of a police officer.

(b) It is unlawful for any person owning or possessing, and having under his or her immediate control, including, but not limited to, voice command, a dog or other animal capable of inflicting harm upon a K-9 dog, to allow, permit, encourage, order or command such dog or other animal to challenge, tease, harass, attack, bite, mutilate, or otherwise harm or disable a K-9 dog while it is engaged in the performance of its duties under the direction and control of a police officer.

§ 7.32.030. Enforcement.

Any person who violates any provision of this chapter shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.
