8.24.010 - Purpose

It is hereby found that the public interest, safety, welfare and convenience require the establishment of a numbering system of street addresses under a uniform plan within the city. For the accomplishment of this objective, there is hereby established a uniform numbering system in order to promote more effective law enforcement, facilitate rapid response to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical, and other purposes, improve the delivery of goods and services, and otherwise promote the economic improvement of the community.

8.24.020 - Street names

Streets within the city shall be names or renamed by the city council, after considering the recommendation of the planning commission.

8.24.030 - Street numbers

The city clerk shall be authorized to formulate, promulgate and enforce specifications pertaining to the size. The size of numbering shall be more than 3½ inches and be of contrasting color of the building, for all properties abutting streets within the city.

8.24.040 - Numbering specifications

The city clerk shall be authorized to formulate, promulgate and enforce specifications pertaining to the size, color, type and location of numbers placed upon properties

8.24.050 - Notification

The city clerk shall notify each owner of property abutting a street within the city of the street number assigned to such property and the adopted specifications pertaining to size to be posted.

8.24.060 - Penalty

It shall be the responsibility of both owners and occupants of property abutting streets within the city to post numbers upon such property in accordance with the designation and specifications of the city clerk. Any owner or occupant of property abutting a street who fails, within one month following notification from the city clerk, shall be guilty of an infraction and shall be punishable by:

  1. A fine not exceeding $100.00 for a first violation;

  2. A fine not exceeding $200.00 for a second violation within one year;

  3. A fine not exceeding $500.00 for each additional violation within one year.
