Sec. 11-4-41. - Generally.

(a) Required. Every house or building shall have a house drain constructed in accordance with the city's plumbing code. Every building shall be connected to the public sewer system by a separate, independent, properly designed and constructed building sewer. The size, slope, alignment, materials of construction, and methods to be used in excavating, placing of the pipe, jointing, testing, and backfilling the trench shall conform to the requirements of the city's standard plans and specifications, and shall be administered by the city inspector.

(b) Prohibited connections. No person shall make connections of roof downspouts, foundation drains, areaway drains, or other sources of surface runoff or groundwater to a building sewer or building drain which is connected directly or indirectly to the public sanitary sewer system.

(c) Time limit. All public buildings, manufacturing places, and private residences shall be connected with the public sewer system, within one month after the date of the acceptance of the sewers by the city council.

Sec. 11-4-42. - Sewer connection fees.

The owners or agents of buildings to be connected with the public sewers shall pay to the city clerk a fee in the amount established by resolution.

Sec. 11-4-43. - Interceptors for commercial establishments.

All garages and washrooms for automobiles and other vehicles, restaurants, hotels, canneries, packinghouses, creameries, and butcher shops shall be provided with a proper means for intercepting mud, grease, and other things of such character which might clog the sewer system.

Sec. 11-4-44. - Screening sewage.

(a) Domestic. Domestic sewage consisting essentially of human wastes may be passed into the city sewers without screening.

(b) Industrial. Industrial wastes, upon an order of the city manager, shall be screened through the equivalent of a screen with 16 meshes to the linear inch in both directions, with the allowance that if mechanical screens are used, openings in the screen plates shall be of equivalent screen capacity, subject to the approval of the city manager or designated representative.
