10.44.010 - Findings.¶
The city council, on the basis of engineering traffic surveys, expressly finds that the prima facie speed limits, as set forth in Sections 10.44.050 through 10.44.070, upon those certain designated portions of public highways are more than is reasonable and safe and that the prima facie speed limits upon the portions of the public highways designated in Sections 10.44.050 through 10.44.070, are most appropriate to facilitate order and movement of traffic and are reasonable and safe.

10.44.020 - Adoption.¶
The city council declares that this chapter is adopted pursuant to the authority granted it by Section 22357 and 22358 of the California Vehicle Code.

10.44.030 - Purpose.¶
The purpose of this chapter is to safeguard life and property and to implement modifications recommended by traffic safety studies providing certain speed zones along specified public roads.

10.44.040 - Designated.¶
The city council establishes certain prima facie speed limits on certain public highways of the city as designated in Sections 10.44.050 through 10.44.072.

10.44.050 - Fifteen miles per hour.¶
The city council establishes a prima facie speed limit of fifteen miles per hour on certain public roads as follows:
A.
Butler Street from its point of intersection with Brighton Street to its point of intersection with Minnie Street.

10.44.060 - Twenty-five miles per hour.¶
The city council establishes a prima facie speed limit of twenty-five miles per hour for all public roads located in a residence or business district as defined in Sections 515 and 235 of the California Vehicle Code, respectively, which are not listed or otherwise set forth in this chapter.

10.44.070 - Thirty miles per hour.¶
The city council establishes a prima facie speed limit of thirty miles per hour on certain public roads as follows:
A.
Alta Street from its point of intersection with West Main Street to its point of intersection with the north city limit;
B.
Bennett Street from its point of intersection with Highway 20/49 access to its point of intersection with Ophir Street;
C.
Dorsey Drive from its point of intersection with East Main Street to its point of intersection with Sutton Way;
D.
East Main Street from its point of intersection with Idaho-Maryland Road to its point of intersection with Sierra College Drive;
E.
Idaho-Maryland Road from its point of intersection with East Main Street to its point of intersection with Railroad Avenue;
F.
Sutton Way from its point of intersection with Brunswick Road to its point of intersection with the north city limit;
G.
West Main Street from its point of intersection with Alta Street to its point of intersection with the west city limit;

10.44.080 - Thirty-five miles per hour.¶
The city council establishes a prima facie speed limit of thirty-five miles per hour on certain public highways as follows:
A.
Bennett Street from its point of intersection with Ophir Street to its point of intersection with the east city limit;
B.
Brunswick Road from its point of intersection with East Main Street to its point of intersection with the east city limit;
C.
Crown Point Circle for its entire length;
D.
East Main Street from its point of intersection with Sierra College Drive to its point of intersection with Brunswick Road;
E.
Freeman Lane from its point of intersection with Mill Street to its point of intersection with McKnight Way;
F.
Hughes Road from its point of intersection with East Main Street to its point of intersection with Ridge Road;
G.
Idaho-Maryland Road from its point of intersection with Railroad Avenue to its point of intersection with Brunswick Road;
H.
McCourtney Road from its point of intersection with Mill Street to its point of intersection with the west city limit;
I.
Nevada City Highway from its point of intersection with Brunswick Road to its point of intersection with the north city limit;
J.
Ridge Road from its point of intersection with the west city limit to its point of intersection with the east city limit;
K.
Sierra College Drive for its entire length;
L.
South Auburn Street from its point of intersection with Empire Street to its point of intersection with McKnight Way;
M.
Sutton Way from its point of intersection with Idaho-Maryland Road to its point of intersection with Brunswick Road;
N.
Whispering Pine Lane for its entire length;

10.44.090 - Forty miles per hour.¶
A.
La Barr Meadows Road from its point of intersection with McKnight Way to its point of intersection with the south city limit;

10.44.100 - Signs.¶
A.
The provisions of this chapter shall not become effective until appropriate signs giving notice of the prima facie speed limits are erected on the road within the limits specifically designated in this chapter in each particular instance.
B.
It is hereby made the duty of the public works director/city engineer with the assistance of public works to erect appropriate signs giving notice of the speed limits upon portions of public roads designated in this chapter.

10.44.110 - Violations.¶
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to drive or cause to be driven any vehicle upon those portions of public highways designated in Section 10.44.050 through 10.44.090, in excess of the prima facie speed limit so provided.
