10.04.010 - Title.

This title shall be known and cited as the "Traffic Ordinance of the Town of Corte Madera."

10.04.020 - Definitions of words and phrases.

The words and phrases in Sections 10.04.040 through 10.40.165 when used in this title shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter. (Amended during 7-99 supplement; Ord. 461 § 1, 1966)

10.04.030 - Motor vehicle code definitions to be used.

Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply.

10.04.040 - Coach.

"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

10.04.050 - Council.

"Council" means the council of the town.

10.04.060 - Curb.

"Curb" means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb be marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. The word "curb" as used in this title shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

10.04.070 - Divisional island.

"Divisional island" means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

10.04.080 - Holidays.

Within the meaning of this title, holidays are the first day of January, the twelfth day of February, the twenty-second day of February, the thirtieth day of May, the fourth day of July, the first Monday in September, the ninth day of September, the twelfth day of October, the eleventh day of November, the twenty-fifth day of December, and Thanksgiving day. If the first day of January, twelfth day of February, twenty-second day of February, the thirtieth day of May, the fourth day of July, the ninth day of September, the twelfth day of October, the eleventh day of November, or the twenty-fifth day of December falls upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday.

10.04.082 - House car.

"House car" shall have the same meaning as is set forth in Section 362 of the California Vehicle Code with the exception that any such vehicle with dimensions less than twenty feet in length or seven feet in height shall be exempted from that definition.

10.04.090 - Loading zone.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

10.04.100 - Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named in this title, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this town.

10.04.110 - Parkway.

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

10.04.120 - Passenger loading zone.

"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

10.04.130 - Pedestrian.

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot.

10.04.140 - Police officer.

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of this town or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

10.04.145 - Recreational vehicle.

"Recreational vehicle" shall have the same meaning as is set forth in California Health and Safety Code Section 18010.

"Stop," when required, means complete cessation of movement.

"Vehicle Code" means the Vehicle Code of the state.

"Vessel" shall have the same meaning as is set forth in the California Harbors and Navigation Code.
