Sec. 2-1. - General municipal election.

(a) Date. Pursuant to Elections Code § 1301, the general municipal election for the city shall be held on the same date as the date of the statewide general election.

(b) Consolidation with statewide general election. The general municipal election for the city shall be consolidated with the statewide general election. Pursuant to Elections Code § 10403.5, the consolidation shall be governed by Elections Code § 10402.5 et seq., except Elections Code § 10403.

(c) Filing period for candidates. Pursuant to Elections Code § 10230, the period to file as a candidate for any general municipal election shall be the same nomination period to file as a candidate for the statewide general election.

(d) Expiration of terms of office. Those city officers whose terms of office would have, prior to the adoption of the ordinance from which this section derives, expired on the Tuesday succeeding the second Tuesday in April of an even-numbered year shall, instead, continue in their offices until the fourth Tuesday after the day of the general municipal election and until their successors are elected and qualified.
