8.24.010 - Control room defined.¶
For the purpose of this chapter, "control room" means a room where electric switches controlling all gasoline pumps are located.

8.24.020 - Compliance.¶
All self-service automobile filling stations within the city shall conform to the provisions of this chapter.

8.24.030 - Adult attendant required.¶
There shall not be less than one male attendant, over the age of twenty-one years, on duty at all times in the control room while the station is open to the public.

8.24.040 - Attendants—Instruction for fire prevention.¶
All attendants shall be thoroughly instructed in the use of fire extinguishers and water in case of fire. Attendants shall also be instructed in prohibiting and preventing patrons from smoking around the pumps.

8.24.050 - Control room—Location and arrangement.¶
The control room shall be centrally located and elevated at least one foot and have an inside area of not less than twenty-five square feet and be so arranged that the operator will have a clear and unobstructed view of all islands.

8.24.060 - Control room—Location of door.¶
The door to the control room shall not be placed on the side facing the pump.

8.24.070 - Construction of buildings within twenty-five feet of pump.¶
No buildings shall be located within twenty-five feet of any pump, unless such building is of noncombustible material.

8.24.080 - Telephone facilities.¶
Telephone facilities, if available, shall be provided on premises.

8.24.090 - Fire extinguishers.¶
One CO 2 extinguisher of at least five pound size shall be placed on each island. Two CO 2 extinguishers of at least fifteen pound size shall be located as required by the fire department. DUGAS extinguishers may be substituted for all CO 2 extinguishers.

8.24.100 - Public-address system.¶
All stations having five or more islands shall be equipped with a public-address system with one speaker for each island. Such public address system shall be operated from the control room.

8.24.110 - Signs as to smoking and stopping motor.¶
Signs reading: "NO SMOKING" and "STOP YOUR MOTOR," red letters on white background, shall be placed at each pump island and so located that they can be seen from both sides of the island.

8.24.120 - Refusal of service when person smokes near pump.¶
Service shall be refused and the pump shut off when persons do not follow instructions of the attendants prohibiting them from smoking around the pumps.

8.24.130 - Electrical fixtures near pump or vent pipe.¶
All electrical fixtures installed by the owner or operator within ten feet of any pump or vent pipe shall be vapor or explosion proof, or approved by the National Board of Fire Underwriters or some other recognized testing laboratory.

8.24.140 - Automatic safety nozzles on gas lines.¶
All gas lines shall be equipped with automatic safety nozzles.

8.24.150 - Manual shutoff on pumps.¶
Each pump shall be equipped with a manually operated shutoff switch or lever.

8.24.160 - Open-flame device—Distance from pump.¶
No open-flame device shall be located or permitted within twenty-five feet of any pump.

8.24.170 - Low-flashpoint flammable material—Distance from pump.¶
No flammable material having a low flashpoint shall be stored or on display within twenty-five feet of any pump.

8.24.180 - Mops and rags—Distance from pump.¶
Mops or rags used for cleaning purposes shall be stored or maintained at least twenty-five feet from every pump.

8.24.190 - Precautions during filling of underground storage tanks.¶
There shall be no filling of automobile gasoline tanks or operation of any gasoline dispensing pumps while underground storage tanks are being filled, unless an approved type of vapor-proof connection is provided between underground tank and filling truck. Smoking or flames, or any spark-producing device or apparatus shall not be permitted within twenty-five of any tank truck unloading into the underground tanks.

8.24.200 - Coin-operated gasoline dispensing machines.¶
No coin-operated gasoline dispensing machine shall be permitted on premises.

8.24.210 - Artificial means of locomotion.¶
The use of skates or other artificial means of locomotion shall be prohibited, unless such skates or other artificial means of locomotion be equipped with nonferrous wheels.

8.24.220 - Cleaning up of spilled gasoline or oil.¶
All gasoline or oils spilled on the ground shall be cleaned up immediately.

8.24.230 - Disposition of waste materials.¶
All waste material and rubbish shall be placed and kept in an all-metal or metal lined container, such container to be equipped with self-closing top. All such waste material and rubbish is to be kept in such container until it is disposed of or removed from the premises.
