GENERAL

401 A .1 Scope. Repairs shall comply with the requirements of this chapter. The provisions of this chapter shall apply to existing structures for applications listed in Section 1.10.1

401 A .1.1 Bleachers, grandstands and folding and tele- scopic seating. Repairs to existing bleachers, grandstands and folding and telescopic seating shall comply with ICC 300.

401A.2 Compliance.

The work shall not make the building less complying than it was before the repair was undertaken.

[BS] 401 A .3 Flood hazard areas. For buildings and struc- tures in flood hazard areas established in California Building Code Section 1612A.3, any repair that constitutes substantial improvement of the existing structure, as defined in Chapter 2 shall comply with the flood design requirements for new construction, and all aspects of the existing structure shall be brought into compliance with the requirements for new construction for flood design.

For buildings and structures in flood hazard areas estab- lished in California Building Code Section 1612A.3, any repairs that do not constitute substantial improvement or repair of substantial damage of the existing structure, as defined in Chapter 2, are not required to comply with the flood design requirements for new construction.
