Chapter 10.52 — BICYCLES AND WHEELED TOYS ON SIDEWALKS

10.52.010. - Definitions.¶
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
A.
Business district means that area of Main Street between Wye Road on the north, Jay Street to the south and including each of the intersecting streets for a distance of 250 feet from Main Street.
B.
Sidewalk means that area adjacent to a traveled roadway, whether hard-surfaced or not, upon which the public is customarily invited or permitted to walk or otherwise use
C.
Wheeled toys includes all other wheeled objects, regardless of motive power, not classified as bicycles in this title nor as vehicles in the Vehicle Code of the state, and specifically includes, but without limitation, roller skates, skateboards, coasters, scooters and toy vehicles, but excludes electric bicycles, electric scooters, and electrically motorized boards as defined in chapter 10.54.

10.52.020. - Use prohibited on sidewalks.¶
No person shall use or operate any bicycle or wheeled toy upon any sidewalk in the business district as defined in this title.

10.52.030. - Signs and notices of restrictions.¶
When it is determined by the city council that the riding of bicycles and/or wheeled toys in other areas of the city, aside from the business district, creates a hazard to the public, the council may by resolution
regulate such bicycle or wheeled toy riding at specific locations by directing the installation or painting of proper signs and notices deemed necessary to properly inform the public of such restrictions.

10.52.040. - Posting authority.¶
The public works director is authorized and directed to erect such signs, markings or other notices as the director deems advisable under this chapter. Signs or markings shall have letters at least one inch high and be posted or marked no further than 250 feet apart.

10.52.050. - Violation; penalty.¶
It is unlawful for any person to violate or fail to comply with any provision of this chapter. Any person violating the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of an infraction.
