Bakersfield Municipal Code Ch. 15.36 Uniform Sign Code

• Note: Chapter 15.36, “Uniform Sign Code,” prior code §§ 13.40.010—13.40.050 and 13.40.070, as amended by Ordinance Nos. 2609, 3031 and 3246 has been amended in its entirety by Ordinance No. 3393.

Except as provided in this chapter, that certain Uniform Sign Code known and designated as the Uniform Sign Code, 1991 Edition, sponsored and copyrighted by the International Conference of Building Officials, as modified and amended in this chapter, a copy of which is on file with the building department of the city of Bakersfield for use and examination by the public, is adopted by reference and is declared to be the sign code of the city for the purpose of regulating the construction, maintenance, use and removal of signs. The following section of the Uniform Sign Code 1991 Edition is not adopted as part of this chapter and is deleted: Section 103(c) Board of Appeals. (Ord. 3393 § 1, 1991)

The sections of the Uniform Sign Code 1991 Edition, mentioned in Sections 15.36.040 through 15.36.060 of this chapter, as adopted by reference, are amended as provided in Sections 15.36.040 through 15.36.060 of this chapter. (Ord. 3393 § 1, 1991)

Section 303-2 is amended to read as follows:

Repainting or cleaning of an advertising structure or the changing of the advertising copy or message thereon shall not be considered an erection or alteration which requires a sign permit unless a structural change is made.

Section 303-3 is amended by deleting the words, “signs less than 6 feet above grade” and adding:

Real estate signs not exceeding twelve square feet in area and 6 feet in height which advertises the sale, rental, or lease of the premises upon which said signs are located.

Section 307 is amended by adding a new section thereto, as follows:

307 All signs shall comply with the provisions of Chapter 17.60 of the current Bakersfield Municipal Code.
