10.24.010 Establishment of increased zones.¶
The council may, by resolution, establish increased speed zones when, on the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, it determines that speed of thirty, thirty-five, forty, forty-five, fifty, fifty-five, sixty or sixty-five miles per hour facilitates the orderly movement of vehicular traffic and would be reasonable and safe upon a street or highway otherwise subject to a prima facie speed limit of twenty-five miles per hour applicable under the California Vehicle Code. 10.24.020 Establishment of limited zones.¶
The council may, by resolution, establish limited speed zones when, on the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, it determines that a speed limit of sixty-five or fifty-five miles per hour is more than is reasonable or safe on any part of a street or highway when such speed limit is sixty-five or fifty-five miles per hour under the California Vehicle Code and further determines that a speed of sixty, fifty-five, fifty, forty-five, forty, thirty-five, thirty or twenty-five miles per hour is more appropriate to facilitate the orderly movement of vehicular traffic. 10.24.030 Placing appropriate signs required.¶
A. When the council, by resolution, has designated a prima facie speed limit other than applicable under the California Vehicle Code, the traffic authority is authorized and directed to erect, post and maintain appropriate signs on the streets or portions thereof designating the prima facie speed limit pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.
B. All signs shall be as specified in, erected and placed pursuant to, the California Vehicle Code. (Prior code § 11.04.033(c))
10.24.040 Official city list of zones—Constitutes prima facie evidence.¶
A. There is established, pursuant to this division, an official city “List of Speed Zones.”
B. The traffic authority shall cause the prima facie limits, adopted pursuant to this chapter, to be placed on the list of speed zones.
C. The traffic authority shall keep a record of all resolutions hereafter adopted designating the prima facie limits of the speed zones and shall cause notation of such records and such streets or portions thereof to be placed on said list in his or her office.
D. Whenever any such speed zone is hereafter amended, deleted or changed, the traffic authority shall cause such fact to be recorded upon the list.
E. Said list of speed zones shall be prima facie evidence of the existence and legality of the speed zones on streets or portions thereof and the legality of the placing of the appropriate signing as provided in this chapter.
F. Said list as amended, shall be deemed to be incorporated in this chapter. (Prior code § 11.04.033(d))
