Sec. 18-886. - Definitions.

The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Private patrol operator means any person licensed by the state to provide private patrol services within the meaning of Business and Professions Code §§ 7512.6 and 7521(b) and shall also mean any employee or agent of such person.

Sec. 18-887. - Registration.

Any private patrol operator performing such services within the city shall register his name and the names of his employees and shall file a copy of his state identification card with the chief of police prior to performing any private patrol services within the city.

Sec. 18-888. - Vehicle color scheme, insignia.

No private patrol operator, while performing such services within the city, shall operate or cause to be operated a vehicle which is black and white in color or which has affixed to such vehicle any decal, emblem or sign resembling the city police patrol vehicle decal or which in any other manner is equipped or outfitted to resemble a city police patrol vehicle.

Sec. 18-889. - Uniforms.

All private patrol operators, while performing such services within the city, shall wear uniforms identifying them as private security personnel discernible by a reasonable and prudent person and sufficient to distinguish them from persons wearing clothing commonly referred to as civilian clothes, such as but not limited to street clothes, blazers or business suits. No uniform shall be dark blue, navy blue or black in color or have a shoulder emblem or patch that in any manner resembles the police department shoulder patch or emblem. The chief of police shall make the final determination as to compliance of a uniform within this section.
