Chapter 2.40 — POLICE OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING

2.40.010 - Training of law enforcement officers.

A.

Qualification Standards. The council declares that it desires to qualify to receive aid from the state pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 4 of Part 4 of the Penal Code of the state.

B.

Adherence to Standards. Pursuant to Section 13522 of said Penal Code, the city, while receiving aid from the state pursuant to said provisions of the Penal Code, agrees to adhere to the standards for recruitment and training established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standard and Training.

2.40.020 - Training of police dispatchers.

A.

Qualification Standards. The city declares that it desires to qualify to receive aid from the state for framing of public safety dispatchers under the provisions of Section 13522, Chapter 1 of Title 4, Part 4, of the California Penal Code.

B.

Adherence to Standards.

1.

Pursuant to Penal Code Section 13510 (c), Chapter 1, the Arroyo Grande police department will adhere to standards for recruitment and training established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, including the following:

a.

A thorough background investigation;

b.

A medical examination;

c.

An evaluation of oral communication skills;

d.

Satisfactory completion of a P.O.S.T. certified eighty (80) hour basic complaint/ dispatchers course within twelve (12) months of date of hire;

e.

A minimum of twelve (12) months probation.

2.

The city agrees that, pursuant to Penal Code Section 13512, Chapter 1, the commission and its representatives may make such inquiries as deemed appropriate by the commission to ascertain that the Arroyo Grande public safety dispatcher personnel adhere to standards for selection and training established by the commission on peace officer standards and training.
