Sec. 4-54. - Ferocious beasts.

No person shall offer for sale, give away, bring into or maintain within the city any ferret, lion, tiger, bear, monkey, wolf, cougar, wildcat, skunk, venomous or other wild animal (Ferae Nature) irrespective of their actual or asserted state of docility, tameness or domesticity.

Sec. 4-55. - Animal waste—Keeping; cleaning.

Animal waste shall not be permitted to accumulate on any premises in the city for periods in excess of ten days and must be removed from the premises at not more than ten-day intervals unless spread upon and buried in the earth.

Sec. 4-56. - Inspection of premises; control of flies.

All premises upon which any animals or fowl are kept shall be subject to inspection at all times by the Modoc County Health Officer. The health officer shall make periodic inspections of the premises and must make inspections within 72 hours when requested to do so by the chief of police or designated officer. Upon the inspections, should he or she discover flies in unreasonable or excessive numbers, he or she shall require further control through the use of insecticides, chemicals or other means.

Sec. 4-57. - Burial of deceased animals.

Any person with a deceased animal on their premises, or the owner or possessor of any animal dying within the city, must bury the animal so that it is covered by at least two feet of mineral soil to grade either on their premises or in a designated area outside the inhabited portion of the city within 24 hours after the animal has died. Alternatively, the deceased animal may be taken to a veterinarian for cremation within 24 hours of death.

Sec. 4-58. - Feeding wildlife.

Feeding big game mammals such as deer and bears is illegal (Barclays California Code of Regulations, Title 14, 251.3); and attracting deer and other wildlife may attract predators, including bears, coyotes and mountain lions.

Sec. 4-59. - Feeding of feral cats.

It shall be unlawful for any person to feed a feral cat where such feeding causes a public nuisance as defined by California Civil Code Section 3480 and California Penal Code Section 370 nuisance to adjoining property owners, neighboring businesses, or the community at large.
