12-3-400 - Protection Against Backflow From Outside Water Source—Required of Certain…

Whenever there exists on any consumer's premises another source of water supply which has not been approved by the Department of Public Health of the State as safe and potable for human use, or whenever a consumer's premises are engaged industrial purposes using or producing processed waters or liquid industrial waste or in handling industrial purposes using or producing processed waters or liquid industrial waste or in handling sewage or any other dangerous substances, the District may refuse or discontinue service until there has been installed on the consumer's service pipeline a suitable and approved backflow assembly of a design approved by the District and installed at the expense of the consumer in a manner approved by the District, and in a location which is readily available to the District for public inspection, for the purpose of protecting against backflow of water from the consumer's premises into the District water system. 12-3-405 - Same—Required for All Supply Lines on Applicable Premises.

Whenever backflow protection has been found necessary on a water supply line entering a consumer's premises, then all water supply lines from the District's mains entering such premises, buildings or structures shall be protected by an approved backflow device regardless of the use of the additional water supply lines.

12-3-410 - Same—Installation Requirements; Inspection of Plans.

Any consumer required to conform to the provisions of Sections 12-3-320 to 12-3-500 shall comply with the State and Federal laws governing the separation of dual water systems or installations of backflow protective devices to protect the public water supply from the danger of cross-connections. Backflow protective devices shall be installed as near the surface as possible and shall be open to test and inspection by the District. Plans for installation of backflow protective devices shall be approved by the District prior to installation.

12-3-415 - Same—Inspection—Repair,etc.—Cost of Repair, etc.

Reduced pressure backflow device and double-check valve or other approved backflow protection devices shall be inspected and tested for water tightness by the District at least annually. The devices shall be serviced, overhauled or replaced whenever they are found defective, and all costs of repair, replacement and maintenance shall be borne by the District. This cost is included in the monthly service charge. (Amended by Ord. No. 98-110 § 2)

12-3-420 - Same—Discontinuance of Service for Lack of Proper Protection.

The service of water to any premises or consumer may be immediately discontinued by the District if any defect is found in a check valve installation or other protective devices, or if it is found that dangerous unprotected cross connections exist. Service shall not be restored until such defects are corrected.
