Appendix C Fire Hydrant Locations and Distribution

California Fire Code Section Appendix C, Section C101.1 is amended to read:

  • C101.1 Scope. In addition to the requirements of Section 507.5.1 of the California Fire Code fire hydrants shall be provided in accordance with this Appendix for the protection of buildings, or portions of buildings, hereafter constructed or moved into the jurisdiction. This section applies to residential and commercial developments. Design and construction shall be in accordance with the following sections unless otherwise authorized by the fire code official in accordance with Chapter 1, Division II, Section 104.9 Alternative Materials and Methods.

Exception: Group B, S-2 and U occupancies having a floor area not exceeding 1,000 square

feet, primarily constructed of noncombustible exterior walls with wood or steel roof framing, having a Class A roof assembly, with uses limited to the following or similar uses:

  1. California State Parks buildings of an accessory nature (restrooms).

  2. Safety Roadside Rest Areas (SRRA), public restrooms.

  3. Truck Inspection Facilities (TIF), CHP office space, and vehicle inspection bays.

  4. Sand/salt storage buildings, storage of sand and salt.

  5. Volunteer fire facilities, including office space and vehicle storage bays.

California Fire Code Section Appendix D, Section D101 is amended to read:

D101.1 Scope. Fire apparatus access roads shall be in accordance with this Appendix as amended and all other applicable requirements of the California Fire Code. This section applies to residential and commercial developments. Design and construction shall be in accordance with the following sections unless otherwise authorized by the fire code official in accordance with 104.9 Alternative Materials and Methods.

Exception: One- and two-family residential dwellings; detached U occupancy buildings less than 1,000 square feet in area accessory to a one- or two-family dwelling; and agricultural exempt buildings less than 8,000 square feet in area may comply with the fire apparatus access road requirements of the Town of Windsor Standards.

California Fire Code Section Appendix D, Section D102.1 is amended to read:

D102.1 Access and Loading Commercial. Facilities, buildings or portions of buildings here-

after constructed shall be accessible to fire department apparatus by way of an approved fire apparatus access road with an asphalt, concrete or other approved driving surface capable of supporting the imposed load of fire apparatus weighing at least 75,000 pounds or as approved by the fire code official.
