§ 19.40.010. Purpose.

The city council finds that due to the special limitations of parcel size, configuration and location that occurs within the specific area referred to as the central business district, there is a need to provide for a limited exception to the general prohibition against specific types of signs. The city council has determined that this exception is necessary in order to assist in the maintenance of an economically viable central business district.

§ 19.40.020. Central business district defined.

The central business district is that area within the city as shown on the map adopted by resolution of the city council, which may be amended from time to time. The exceptions provided for in this chapter shall apply only to the specific geographic area within the central business district. In addition to the special regulations exceptions provided for in this chapter, the central business district shall also be permitted signage as provided for in all other chapters of this title.

§ 19.40.030. CBD signs, permitted.

In addition to signs permitted elsewhere in the city, the following signs are permitted in the central business district.

A. One A-frame sign per parcel/business not to exceed six square feet per side to advertise the lawful business and, limited to a clearly delineated approved outdoor dining or /display area. The sign may be located in the public right-of-way in front of the business pursuant to a city-approved encroachment permit.

B. Window signs not to exceed twenty-five percent of the glass area of all building facades fronting public streets.

C. Projecting signs, in addition to wall signs, which may extend over the public right-of-way pursuant to a city-approved encroachment permit.
