10.12.010 - Trucks and tractors with semitrailers deemed vehicles.

A truck or tractor connected to a semitrailer shall be regarded as one vehicle within the meaning of this chapter.

10.12.020 - Maximum weight for vehicles on city streets.

The maximum gross weight, length, height, and width of any vehicle and load operated or parked upon the public streets and alleys of the City shall not exceed the following: Ten tons (twenty thousand pounds) in gross weight, sixty-five feet in length, fourteen feet six inches in height, and eight feet six inches in width. Any vehicle exceeding any of the foregoing dimensions shall be prohibited from being operated or parked upon the public streets and alleys of the city except as otherwise described in Section 10.12.040.

10.12.030 - Exemptions from chapter requirements.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply in the following instances:

A. To any state highway within the limits of the city;

B. In cases where it is necessary that a vehicle of the gross weight prohibited in this chapter be operated on the public streets and alleys in order to effect repairs thereto, to store such vehicle, or to load or discharge cargo within the city, or to detour from the state highway when such detour is authorized by the city.

10.12.040 - Truck routes—Designated.

The following streets are designated as "alternate routes" or "truck routes" for the movement of vehicles exceeding any of the dimensions described in Section 10.12.020 and which are designed for carrying merchandise, freight or material:

A. Tehachapi Boulevard from the easterly city limits west to Steuber Road which is sometimes known as Business Route 58;

B. That portion of Tucker Road lying within the incorporated city limits; and

C. That portion of Tehachapi - Willow Springs Road lying within the incorporated city limits

10.12.050 - Truck routes—Rules and regulations—Exemptions.

The following shall apply to the streets mentioned in Section 10.12.040:

A. Points of beginning and of termination of the above-named truck routes are descriptive only, and do not indicate direction of travel.

B. These streets shall be posted with appropriate signs as "truck routes" for the movements of vehicles described in Section 10.12.040 of the Tehachapi Municipal Code.

C. When such truck routes are posted with appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of ten tons shall drive on such routes and none other, except when necessary to traverse another street or streets to destinations for the purpose of loading or unloading merchandise, freight of materials, but then only by such deviation from the nearest truck route as is reasonably necessary. In no event shall the operator or owner of any such vehicle park or permit such vehicle to be parked along any routes within the city except the described truck routes set out in Section 10.12.040, except when necessary to park for the purpose of loading or unloading merchandise, freight or materials, and then only to the extent that such parking is reasonably necessary.

D. This chapter shall have no application to any vehicle which is subject to the provisions of Section 1031 to 1036, inclusive, (passenger stages) of the Public Utilities Code, or to vehicles operated by the federal government or the state, or any agency, department, political subdivision or municipal corporation thereof; or to vehicles of a public utility while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or maintenance of such public utility apparatus.
