Tehachapi Municipal Code Ch. 10.40 Speed Limits

It is declared that it is unlawful for any person to drive any vehicle, as described by California Vehicle Code Section 670, on any city street at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the street, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property, or exceeding prima facie speed limits established by city ordinance or by California law.

The prima facie speed limits upon the streets or highways or portions thereof, hereinafter designated in this section, shall be, and are declared to be, the following:

A. Upon South Curry Street between West "C" Street and Cummings Valley Boulevard, the prima facie speed limit shall be thirty-five miles per hour.

B. Upon South Curry Street between Cummings Valley Boulevard and Pinon Street, the prima facie speed limit shall be thirty-five miles per hour, except between Fir Street and Pinon Street during school hours when children are present, when the prima facie speed limit shall be twenty-five miles per hour.

C. Upon South Curry Street between Pinon Street and Highline Road, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty-five miles per hour.

D. Upon Mountain View Avenue between Cummings Valley Boulevard and Tehachapi Boulevard, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty-five miles per hour.

E. Upon North Mill Street between Capital Hills Parkway and East "H" Street, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty-five miles per hour.

F. Upon Tehachapi Boulevard between Mountain View Avenue and Dennison Road, the prima facie speed limit shall be thirty-five miles per hour.

G. Upon Cummings Valley Boulevard between Tucker Road and Curry Street, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty miles per hour.

H. Upon Tucker Road between Cherry Lane and Cummings Valley Boulevard, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty miles per hour.

I. Upon Tucker Road between Cummings Valley Boulevard and Tehachapi Boulevard, the prima facie speed limit shall be forty-five miles per hour.

J. Upon South Curry Street between Tehachapi Boulevard and West "C" Street, the prima facie speed limit shall be thirty miles per hour.

The prima facie speed limits declared in this section shall be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon the designated streets.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of an infraction, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable in the manner and to the extent provided for in Section 1.20.010 of this code.
