4-40.010 Definitions. ¶

For the purposes of this Article, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this Section, unless the context or the provision clearly requires otherwise:

Taxicab means a motor vehicle regularly engaged in the business of carrying passengers for hire, designed for carrying not more than eight persons excluding the driver, not operated over a fixed route, and the destination and route of which are under the control of the passenger or passengers being carried therein. 4-40.020 Driver's permit. ¶

No person shall operate a taxicab, or permit a taxicab owned or controlled by that person to be operated within the City without first having obtained a valid permit under a permitting program of any county or any other city, whose ordinance complies with California Government Code section 53075.5 and all applicable state and federal laws.

4-40.040 Violations of Article; penalties. ¶

The violation of any provision contained in this Article, or the violation of any condition of a certificate or driver's permit issued hereunder, is hereby declared to be unlawful and shall constitute a misdemeanor and a public nuisance, subject to the penalties as prescribed in Chapter 3 of this Code.

4-40.030 Enforcement of Article. ¶

The City Manager or designee is authorized to inspect and examine all taxicabs in the City to ascertain whether or not the provisions of this Article have been and are being complied with. (Amended by Ord. No. 307, § 1.A.1, 10-16-2013; Ord. No. 322, § 1(Exh. 1.B.9), 11-19-2014)
