Sec. 58-100. - Statement of purpose.¶
The purpose of Sanger City Code, chapter 58, article V is to establish a uniform procedure for the naming of new streets within the city that fosters community heritage, harmony and esteem, encourages the dedication of new streets, and facilitates easy street identification and direction throughout the city.

Sec. 58-101. - Street naming policy.¶
(a) No existing streets within the city shall be renamed.
(b) With regard to all requests by the public for the naming of any new city street:
(1) A request to name a new street after an individual will be considered only upon the satisfaction of all of the following criteria:
a. The nominated individual must be deceased for at least three years prior to the date the request was submitted; and
b. The nominated individual must have been a citizen or resident of the city for a period totaling no less than 20 years. The city includes the area comprising the Sanger Unified School district; and
c. The nominated individual must have provided significant distinguished service and/or benefit to the Sanger community; and
d. The nominated individual must have never been convicted of any criminal offense constituting a felony.
(2) Alternatively, a request to name a new street after any individual of special historical or political significance will be considered only upon the satisfaction of both of the following criteria:
a. The nominated individual must be deceased for at least three years prior to the date the request was submitted; and
b. The nominated individual must have never been convicted of any criminal offense constituting a felony.

Sec. 58-102. - Street naming procedure.¶
(a) All requests for the naming of new streets shall be made in writing to the planning commission.
(b) The proposed street name shall coincide with any given street name where the new street is an extension or is in alignment with an existing street.
(c) The planning commission shall review and approve the proposed name for any new street.
(d) The decision of the planning commission shall be final unless appealed to the city council in accordance with the procedure specified below.

Sec. 58-103. - New streets within subdivisions.¶
Application of this article shall not prevent subdivision developers from exercising their ability pursuant to chapter 62, article III of this Code, or any other applicable authority to name newly created subdivision streets subject to the approval of the planning commission.

Sec. 58-104. - Appeals procedure.¶
(a) Within ten days of the planning commission's decision regarding the naming of any new city street, the applicant, director of development services, city manager, a member of the city council, or any other interested person may appeal such decision to the city council by filing a written appeal with the city clerk.
(b) The decision of the city council shall be final.
