§ 4-6.101. Scope.¶
For the purposes of this chapter, unless otherwise apparent from the context, certain words and phrases used in this chapter are defined as set forth in this article.

§ 4-6.102. Vehicle Code definitions.¶
Whenever any word or phrase used in this chapter is not defined in this article but is defined in the Vehicle Code of the State, such definition of said Vehicle Code shall apply.

§ 4-6.103. Curb.¶
“Curb” shall mean the lateral boundary of a roadway, generally along and defining the edge of a roadway.

§ 4-6.104. Darkness.¶
“Darkness” shall mean one-half hour after sunset until one-half hour before sunrise on the next day.

§ 4-6.105. Department.¶
“Department” shall mean the Department of Public Works of the City.

§ 4-6.106. Divisional island.¶
“Divisional island” shall mean a raised or painted island, not less than two feet in width, located in a roadway and separating or dividing opposing or conflicting traffic streams.

§ 4-6.107. Gross weight.¶
“Gross weight” shall mean the combined weight of a vehicle and its load.

§ 4-6.108. Loading zone.¶
“Loading zone” shall mean the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of materials.

§ 4-6.109. Official time standard.¶
“Official time standard” shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in the City.

§ 4-6.110. Overload.¶
“Overload” shall mean any vehicle or combination of vehicles exceeding the limitations set forth in Division 15 of the Vehicle Code of the State relating to the height, width, length, size, or weight of a vehicle or load.

§ 4-6.111. Parkway.¶
“Parkway” shall mean that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

§ 4-6.112. Passenger loading zone.¶
“Passenger loading zone” shall mean the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the unloading or loading of passengers when so marked pursuant to Article 3 of this chapter.

§ 4-6.113. Peace officer.¶
“Peace officer” shall mean any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic laws or any peace officer as defined in Chapter 4.5 of Part 2 of Title 3 of the Penal Code of the State.

§ 4-6.114. Penal Code.¶
“Penal Code” shall mean the Penal Code of the State.

§ 4-6.115. Person.¶
“Person” shall mean any person, firm, individual, corporation, partnership, trust, or other organization and shall include an owner, lessee, agent, or employee of any person, firm, individual, corporation, partnership, trust, or other organization.

§ 4-6.116. Public utility vehicle.¶
“Public utility vehicle” shall mean any vehicle owned and operated by a public utility operating under the rules and regulations of the Public Utilities Commission of the State.

§ 4-6.117. Traffic Engineer.¶
“Traffic Engineer” shall mean the City Engineer of the City.

“Vehicle Code” shall mean the Vehicle Code of the State.
