Subject to section 2-243, the director of recreation and community services is an unclassified position.

Sec. 54-98. - Powers and duties generally.

The director of recreation and community services shall carry out the directions of the council and shall be under the supervision of the city administrative officer. The director shall exercise supervision and control over the work, operating services, and activities of the department of recreation and community services or shall have the authority to assign such responsibilities to a designee. The director shall coordinate the work of the divisions thereof into one efficient and economical operation. The director may have the management and care of park buildings, recreational facilities, future facilities and programs in the city. Such programs will include, but not be limited to, the senior citizen center, Lopez Adobe, etc. The director of recreation and community services will serve as the staff support to the historical and cultural arts commission and the recreation and community services commission. The director shall prepare and present accurate and comprehensive written and oral reports of commission meetings to facilitate communication between the city administrative officer, the city council, and the commissioners.

Sec. 54-99. - Safety.

The director of recreation and community services and his designee shall jointly work with the chief of police to establish a safe public environment within the parks and all recreation areas.
