8.40.010 Duty of physicians, healers, etc., to report.

It is made the duty of every physician, Christian Science practitioner or purported healer of any and every kind and character or name in the city, who visits for treatment, or treats any person for contagious sickness, no matter by what name the same may be designated by such physician or person, whether as illness, disease or error, or in what manner the same may be treated by such person, to report such contagious case immediately, in writing, to the health officer, either in person or through a regular physician called in for that purpose. It is also made their duty to report to such health officer all cases or suspected cases of Asiatic cholera, yellow fever, typhus fever, plague, smallpox, scarlet fever, diphtheria and all contagious, infectious and communicable diseases, which are required by the rules of the State Board of Health to be reported to such board. 8.40.020 Duty of heads of household, hostlers, etc., to report-Reports of deaths of infected persons.

Every head of a household and every person keeping a boardinghouse or lodginghouse or a hotel in the city shall, if a report has not already been made as provided in Section 8.40.010 of this chapter, forthwith report, in writing, to the health officer the name of every person who is an inmate of his or her home or his or her hotel, whom he or she shall have reason to believe is sick of any disease mentioned in Section 8.40.010 of this chapter, or any contagious or infectious disease, and shall also report the death of any person occurring at his or her house or hotel from any such contagious disease. 8.40.030 Quarantine.

It shall be the duty of the health officer, or of some person authorized by him or her, immediately after the receipt of notice announcing the existence in any building of any infectious or contagious disease, to quarantine the same, if so directed by the State Board of Health, or if in his or her judgment such building should be quarantined. Such building shall be quarantined by posting in such places as may be designated by the health officer a placard or flag, upon which shall be printed the name of the disease, in plain and legible letters of at least two and one-half inches in height. The health officer may, in his or her judgment, quarantine the whole or any portion of such building. Placards or flags announcing the existence of a contagious or infectious disease in a building, or part of a building, shall not be removed, defaced or destroyed by any person, except the health officer or some person authorized by him or her, and in no case until the premises have been thoroughly disinfected. Premises, or parts of premises, while quarantined shall not be visited nor resided in by any persons other than those who are sick or by those in attendance on such sick persons. 8.40.040 Persons coming into contact with infected persons not to go into public places-Exception.

No persons attending upon or coming in contact with any person infected with any contagious or infectious disease in such a manner or to such an extent as to render them liable to communicate the disease, except physicians, clergymen, nurses and those engaged in treating contagious diseases, shall go upon any public street, or attend any public or private school, church, place of amusement, or in any way mingle with people not affected with the disease. 8.40.050 Parents, etc., not to allow children outside of infected building-Exception.

No parent, guardian, tutor or person having charge or control of any child shall allow or permit any such child to go from any building infected with any infectious or contagious disease, unless a permit, in writing, shall first be obtained from the health officer. (Prior code § 21.02.008)

8.40.060 Moving infected person to another building.

No person shall remove a patient suffering from any infectious or contagious disease from any house or place within the city to any other house or place, without the written consent of the health officer. All such removals shall be done only by or under the direction of the health officer. (Prior code § 21.02.009)

8.40.070 Use of vehicles for conveying infected persons.

No person shall drive or use any vehicle, or permit any vehicle belonging to him or her or under his or her control, to be driven or to be used for the conveyance or removal of any persons infected with any infectious or contagious disease, without the written consent of the health officer first had and obtained. (Prior code § 21.02.010)

8.40.080 Disinfecting premises, clothing, etc.

All places, premises and exposed rooms and all personal property which have become infected with infectious or contagious matter by reason of contact with an infected person shall be thoroughly disinfected by or under the direction of the health officer and in such manner as he or she shall direct. (Prior code § 21.02.011)
