10.72.010 - Effect of regulations.

A. All regulations of the California Vehicle Code applicable to bicycles shall apply on any roadway or any public place in the city of Rohnert Park.

B. The parent of any child and the guardian of any ward shall not authorize or knowingly permit any child or ward to violate any of the provisions of this chapter.

C. All regulations of the California Vehicle Code and the Rohnert Park Municipal Code applicable to bicycles shall be applicable to a motorized bicycle and a motorized scooter.

10.72.020 - Obligation to pedestrian.

The operator of a bicycle shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and if appropriate shall give audible signals before passing such pedestrian.

10.72.030 - Prohibiting riding on sidewalks.

The city traffic engineer is authorized to erect signs on any sidewalk prohibiting the riding of bicycles thereon by any person, and when such signs are in place no person shall disobey the same.

10.72.040 - Penalties.

Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this chapter shall be punished pursuant to the provisions of the California Vehicle Code if applicable or otherwise pursuant to the Rohnert Park Municipal Code relative to infractions, or by impounding of such person's bicycle for a period not to exceed thirty days or by any combination thereof.

10.72.050 - Use of definitions.

For purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall be defined as follows:

A. A "motorized bicycle" is a device that has fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power and has an electric motor that meets all of the following requirements: has a power output of not more than one thousand watts; is incapable of propelling the device at a speed of more than twenty miles per hour on ground level; is incapable of further increasing the speed of the device when human power is used to propel the motorized bicycle faster than twenty miles per hour.

B. A "motorized scooter" is any two-wheeled device that has handlebars, is designed to be stood or sat upon by the operator, and is powered by an electric motor, or other source of power, that is capable of propelling the device with or without human propulsion.

10.72.060 - Motorized bicycles and motorized scooters: exhaust system.

A. All motorized bicycles and motorized scooters shall be equipped with an adequate muffler maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise. No muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

B. No person shall modify the muffler of a motorized bicycle or motorized scooter in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted from the motorized bicycle or motorized scooter.

10.72.070 - Motorized bicycles and motorized scooters: gasoline powered motors excluded…

Gasoline powered motorized bicycles and/or scooters shall not be allowed on Class I bicycle paths.
