Sec. 2-9.01. - Powers and duties.¶
By statute, the Legislature of the State has provided that Reserve Deputy Sheriffs who are rated as Level I Reserve Deputy Sheriffs may be empowered by local government bodies to have those full peace officer powers and duties as provided by Section 830.1 of the Penal Code of the State.

Sec. 2-9.02. - Appointment by the Sheriff.¶
Upon appointment by the Sheriff, Reserve Deputy Sheriffs who have qualified as Level I Reserve Deputy Sheriffs pursuant to subsection (1) of subsection (a) of Section 832.6 of the Penal Code of the State and, in addition have completed a minimum of two (2) years of field experience as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the County comprising a minimum of 280 working hours, or have comparable experience of five (5) years as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff or Reserve Police Officer in another jurisdiction and one year with the County, or have at least a Basic Post Certificate and one year as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the County shall have those peace officer powers and duties as provided by subsection (2) of subsection (a) of Section 830.6 of the Penal Code of the State. Such officers shall be known as the "Designated Reserve".

Sec. 2-9.03. - Level I Reserve Officer certificates.¶
This chapter includes as eligible those reserves who have been issued a Level I Reserve Officer certificate before January 1, 1981, as well as those persons receiving a Level I Reserve Officer certificate on or after January 1, 1981.

Sec. 2-9.04. - Time requirement waivers.¶
The time requirement for a Reserve Officer to be in the Sheriff's Department prior to appointment as a Designated Reserve may be waived at the discretion of the Sheriff.

Sec. 2-9.05. - Revocation or suspension of appointments.¶
Nothing in this chapter shall prevent the Sheriff from revoking or suspending such Designated Reserve status of any appointed officer, nor shall the Sheriff be under any mandate to make any such appointment to any individual Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
