Article 8 — TRANSPORTATION PERMITS

Sec. 4-3.801. - Authorized.

Under emergency conditions only the Board may, upon an application in writing therefor, and if good cause appears, issue special written permits authorizing the permittee to operate, drive, or move vehicles, or

combinations of vehicles, machines, or other implements otherwise prohibited by the provisions of this chapter upon County highways or bridges under the supervision of the Board.

Sec. 4-3.802. - Applications.

Applications for the permits required by Section 4-3.801 of this article shall be in writing and shall:

(a)

Specifically describe the vehicles, machines, or other implements and loads to be operated or moved;

(b)

Set forth the particular highways or bridges over which the permit to operate is requested; and

(c)

Specify whether such permit is requested for a single trip or for a continuous operation.

Sec. 4-3.803. - Issuance: Indemnity: Denial.

The Board is hereby authorized to issue or withhold such permits at its discretion. If such a permit is issued, the Board is hereby authorized to limit the number of trips, or to establish seasonal or other time limitations within which the vehicles described may be operated on the highways or bridges indicated, or to otherwise limit or prescribe the conditions of operation of the vehicles when necessary to assure against undue damage to such highways or bridges. The Board may require such undertaking or other security as may be deemed necessary to protect the County highways and bridges from injury or to provide indemnity for any injuries resulting from the operation of such vehicles.

Sec. 4-3.804. - Display.

Every permit required by the provisions of Section 4-3.801 of this article shall be carried in or upon the vehicle, machine, or other implement to which it refers and shall be open to the inspection of any peace officer, traffic officer, or other officer or employee charged with the care and protection of the highways or bridges.
