10.08 — STOPPING AREAS

The following portions of streets in the city are designated as boulevards: Second Street, between the southerly line of E Street and the northerly line of El Circulo Street at the northerly intersection of said El Circulo Street with said Second Street. (Ord. 58 § 1, 1926)

The drivers of vehicles proposing to enter or cross the boulevard are and shall be required to stop before entering or crossing the boulevard: On El Circulo Street, both at its northerly and southerly intersections with Second Street; on Del Puerto Avenue, at its intersection with Second Street; on Las Palmas Avenue, at its intersection with Second Street; on Salado Avenue, at its intersection with Second Street; and on E Street, at its intersection with Second Street. All said streets, avenues and intersections being the same as are designated on a map of subdivisions of the city, on file and of record in the office of the county recorder. (Ord. 58 § 2, 1926)

The street superintendent is directed to clearly mark and signpost all of the intersections by conspicuously placing metal signs on the right-hand side of, and at right angles to, each of the streets and highways above named in Section 10.08.020, looking toward the boulevard: On Del Puerto Avenue; on Las Palmas Avenue; on Salado Avenue; on E Street, at or as close as practicable to their respective intersections with the boulevard, and on El Circulo Street, or as close as practicable to, both its northerly and southerly intersections with the boulevard. The signs shall be at a height of not less than four nor more than ten feet from the ground and shall be diamond shaped; the sides not less than twenty-four inches in length, which signs shall be colored red on both the front and back thereof, except that the points of the diamond may be painted yellow, and which the signs shall have inscribed on the red ground on the front thereof in white letters of a sign to be easily read by a person using the highway, the words "Boulevard Stop."

Nothing herein contained shall be construed so as to increase the limits or speed of vehicles using the boulevard over the rates now allowed by law, nor so as to relieve the drivers of vehicles upon the boulevard from the exercise of all reasonable care for the safety of the lives and property of other users of the highways or streets.

It is unlawful and a misdemeanor for the driver, operator or person having control of any vehicle of any kind to enter or cross Second Street at its northerly intersection with El Circulo Street, or at Del Puerto Avenue, Las Palmas Avenue, Salado Avenue, its southerly intersection with El Circulo Street, or E Street, without first bringing such vehicle to a stop at the point indicated by

§ 10.08.060. Violation of Sections 10.08.010 through 10.08.050—Penalty.

Any person violating any of the provisions of Sections 10.08.010 through 10.08.050 shall upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not to exceed one hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed fifty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, and the judgment for the payment of a fine shall specify that in default of such payment, the defendant shall be imprisoned in the county jail until such fine is paid at the rate of one days' imprisonment for every two dollars of such fine.

In addition to the streets and roadways heretofore designated as through highways, and intersections heretofore designated as stop intersections by ordinance or resolution, the following intersections of the alleys between Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street, and between El Circulo Street and the last mentioned alley, in Block 51 are designated as stop intersections. The intersections of the alley between Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street in Block 51 with Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street are designated as stop intersections, and all vehicles passing through the alley to South Third Street shall stop before entering South Third Street, and all vehicles passing through the alley to Del Puerto Avenue shall stop before entering Del Puerto Avenue, and the intersection of the alley from El Circulo Street and the alley between Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street in Block 51 is designated as a stop intersection, and all vehicles passing through the alley from the direction of El Circulo Street to the alley between Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street shall stop before entering the last mentioned alley, South Third Street and Del Puerto Avenue being declared to be through highways with respect to the alley running from Del Puerto Avenue to South Third Street, and the alley between Del Puerto Avenue and South Third Street declared a through highway with respect to the alley running thereto from El Circulo Street. The superintendent of streets shall erect stop signs of the form provided by law at the intersections.
