Chapter 10.44 — STOPPING, STANDING OR PARKING RESTRICTED OR PROHIBITED ON CERTAIN

STREETS*[9]

When signs are erected giving notice thereof no person shall park a vehicle at any time upon any of the streets described in Section 10.52.060 of this title.

A.

When signs of a type approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles of the state of California are in place giving notice thereof, no person shall stop, stand or park any vehicle on Fresno Street from Newmark Avenue to Zediker Avenue and on J Street from Fresno Street to Merced Street, for a period of time longer than two hours at any time between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. of any day, except Sundays and holidays.

It is unlawful and a misdemeanor for any person to fail to comply with said notices when parking time limit signs are displayed.

No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle on any street for a period of time longer than thirty minutes between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. of any day.

The chief of police is authorized to install and maintain parking space markings to indicate parking spaces adjacent to curbings where authorized parking is permitted.

When such parking space markings are placed in the highway, subject to other and more restrictive limitations, no vehicle shall be stopped, left standing or parked other than within a single space unless the size or shape of such vehicle makes compliance impossible.

A.

Whenever any ordinance of this city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons, the chief of police or city manager is authorized to designate such street or streets by appropriate signs as "truck traffic routes" for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons.

B.

When truck traffic routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons may operate such vehicle only on such routes and shall not operate such vehicle on any other street, road, alley, highway or other public place; except that nothing in this section shall prohibit the operator of any such vehicle from driving, by direct route, to and

from a non-truck traffic route, when necessary to make pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, materials or merchandise from or to any property located on such non-truck traffic route; provided that the operator of such vehicle shall at all times remain with the vehicle during said delivery or pick-up.

C.

No person shall park a vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons on any street, road, highway, alley or other public road within the city.

D.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to:

Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission; or

Any vehicle owned or being used by a public utility or public agency in the performance of its official duties.

E.

Those streets and parts of streets described in Section 10.52.080 hereof are declared to be truck traffic routes for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight of three tons.

F.

For purposes of this section, the term "vehicle" and the term "truck traffic" shall include, but not be limited to, passenger buses, truck tractors, semitrailers, motorized and farming equipment and vehicles, and commercial vehicles.

A.

Whenever any ordinance of this city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street the use of which is prohibited by any commercial vehicle, the chief of police shall erect and maintain appropriate signs on those streets affected by such ordinance.

B.

Those streets and parts of streets described in Section 10.52.090 hereof are declared to be streets the use of which is prohibited by any commercial vehicle. The provisions of this section shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission.
